Grinding the Holding Brake

Overview

NOTE: Regrind the holding brake if a motor was stored for over 2 years before mounting.

How to Disassemble the Motor

Action

Observe the Prerequisites for Replacing Components and Cables and the special measures for Replacement of the Lexium 62 ILM.

Set main switch to OFF position to free system of voltage.

Prevent main switch from being switched back on.

Disconnect the connection cables on the motor.

Loosen the screw connections on the motor.

Result: The motor is removed from the machine and disconnected from the electrical supply lines.

How to Regrind the Holding Brake

NOTE: The motor must not be installed in machine and the holding brake must be engaged.

UNINTENDED AXIS MOVEMENTS

Only grind the holding brake when the removed motor is disconnected from the electrical supply lines.

Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury, or equipment damage.

Action

1

Verify the holding torque of the holding brake using a torque wrench.

Compare the value to the specified holding torque of the holding brake upon delivery.

If the holding torque of the holding brake considerably differs from the specified values, manually rotate the motor shaft by 25 rotations in both directions.

4

Repeat the process.

If you cannot restore the original holding torque after repeating the process 3 times, contact your Schneider Electric representative.
