System Explorer - Working with System Projects

SYSTEM PROJECTS Tree Structure

The SYSTEM PROJECTS tree structure contains the following elements:

  • The system projects that are available in the repository folder selected with the parameter System Location. Each system project is displayed as a root node in the tree.

  • The application projects that are available per system project are displayed as subnodes of the system project node.

Application Projects Data - General Information

Application projects contain two different types of data:

  • Project data: The project file that is specific to the individual software program, for example, the EcoStruxure Machine Expert Logic Builder .project file.

  • System data: Data provided by the different software programs to be shared with other software programs, for example, cam diagrams that were created with Motion Sizer and can be imported into EcoStruxure Machine Expert Logic Builder.

Editing Application Projects

To edit an application project that is part of a system project, proceed as follows:

Step

Action

1

In the System Explorer, select an application project node.

2

Click the Open button.

Result: A local copy of the application project is saved to the working directory on your local PC. The application project is displayed as locked to other system project users. You can adapt the path to the working directory manually in each software program.

3

Edit the project in your software program, such as EcoStruxure Machine Expert Logic Builder or Motion Sizer.

4

After you have performed the modifications, right-click the application project node in the System Explorer, and execute the command Publish Changes to save the application project back to the repository.

NOTE: The lock on the project is released while closing the application project.

Application Project-Specific States

The status of the application projects in the tree structure is indicated by icons and tooltips. The following states are possible:

Status

Description

Project data is up to date

The local copy of the application project in the working directory is synchronized with the system repository.

Project is locked

The lock symbol indicates that the project is locked either for exclusive access by the logged in user or by another user:

  • The project is open and has been locked for edit by the logged in user. Access is denied to other users.

  • The project has been opened by another user. As long as the project is being locked by another user, it cannot be edited.

Simultaneously editing the same project is not possible.

Modifications in the project that have not been published

The project has been edited locally but the modifications have not yet been published to the system repository.

To make the modifications available to other users, perform one of the following tasks:

  • Right-click the application project node in the System Explorer, and execute the command Publish Changes.

  • In the EcoStruxure Machine Expert Logic Builder, execute the command System Project > Save To Repository.

  • When you close the project, confirm the prompt requesting you to save the modifications of the local project to the repository by clicking Yes.

Project has not yet been published

After initial creation, the application project is only available in the working directory but not in the system repository. Perform one of the tasks as described for the status Modifications in the project that have not been published.

Project is out of date

Modifications of the application project are available in the system repository but not in the local working directory.

To make the modifications available in the local working directory, right-click the application project node in the System Explorer, and execute the command Update.

System data has been modified in the repository

Modifications of system data from other application projects are available in the system repository but not in the local working directory.

To make the modifications available in the local working directory, right-click the application project node in the System Explorer, and execute the command Update.

Status is undefined

The status of the application project is indeterminable. The reason might be that the system project has been deleted from the system repository and the application project is only available in the working directory.

To solve this issue, perform one of the following tasks:

  • Right-click the application project node in the System Explorer, and execute the command Delete.

  • Click the Open button, and assign the application project to another system project.

States Indicated by the System Explorer

Status

Description

No connection to the repository

This status is indicated by the System Explorer when the connection to the system repository is not available.

To solve this issue, verify that the path to the system repository is available, especially when it is saved on a network drive.

System not found in repository

This status indicates that the system project has been deleted from the repository but an application project of this system project is still available in the working directory on your local PC.

The following options are available for this application project:

  • Remove the application project by right-clicking the project node and executing the Clean command.

  • Open this local application project and add it to another system project by clicking the Add Current Project button.

  • Open this local application project and save it as a normal application project without connection to a system project.

Commands of the Contextual Menu in the SYSTEM PROJECTS Tree Structure

By right-clicking a node in the SYSTEM PROJECTS tree structure, the following commands are accessible:

Command

Description

Delete

Deletes the selected item (system project or application project) from the SYSTEM PROJECTS tree structure.

Force Unlock

Unlocks a project that is being locked by another user and makes it available for edit.

See important hazard message after the table.

Update

Updates project and system data.

Publish Changes

Copies the modifications that have only been performed in the local copy of the application project to the system repository to make them available to other application projects.

NOTE: Executing the Force Unlock command can lead to the loss of the modifications on the project that have been performed by the user who has locked the project.
NOTICE
LOSS OF DATA
Only use the Force Unlock command if all other efforts to normally unlock the project are unsuccessful.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in equipment damage.
