Advanced and Commissioning Parameters

The device description file provides the possibility to assign attributes to device parameters. Possible attributes (among others) are

  • Commissioning (marked by the  icon in the safety-related parameter grid)

  • Advanced (marked by the  icon in the safety-related parameter grid)

Commissioning parameters

Parameters for which the attribute 'Commissioning' is set by the device manufacturer can be edited by users who belong to the user group 'Commissioning'. In contrast, standard parameters cannot be modified by commissioners. Commissioning parameters are intended to be adjusted during commissioning of the safety-related application and can be used for fine-tuning the safety-related system.

Refer to your device documentation for information about which parameters are commissioning parameters.

Advanced parameters

Parameters for which the attribute 'Advanced' is set by the device manufacturer, can be modified by Administrators and Developers.

Purpose of advanced parameters: For devices with a large amount of parameters, parameters which are rarely used, can be defined as advanced parameters by the device manufacturer. Advanced parameters can be considered as expert parameters.

Displaying, modifying and hiding advanced parameters: Advanced parameters are hidden in the parameter editor by default and can be made visible by the user. For that purpose, the parameter editor provides the context menu item 'Show Advanced Parameters' (menu item is only available if the device provides advanced parameters).

After modifying the value of a particular advanced parameter, i.e., if the present value differs from the default value, this parameter cannot be hidden anymore. It rather remains visible to every user in order to indicate that it has been modified. In contrast, the unmodified advanced parameters can be hidden again by deselecting the context menu item 'Show Advanced Parameters' in the parameter editor.
