Ethernet protocol control
The Ethernet protocol control feature allows you to enable, disable, or change the port number of the Ethernet protocols supported on your meter.
If you are connected to your device over Ethernet, changing Ethernet configuration parameters without another method of configuration enabled may cause loss of communications with your device and render it inoperable. In this case a factory reconfiguration of your device is required, which resets your device to its factory defaults and all logged data is lost.
notice
data Loss
Maintain sufficient access to communicate to and configure your device.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in data loss.
NOTE: The protocol port number may not be configurable on all protocols.
Using the front panel
You cannot change the Ethernet port number assignments through the front panel.
Using ION Setup
- Open the Setup Assistant for your meter. See the ION Setup Help for instructions.
- Select Communications > Advanced Ethernet and click the Protocols tab.
- Select a protocol from the list and click Edit.
- Select the Enabled check box to enable the port.
- Select a port number from the Port Number dropdown list or by clicking in the Port Number field and entering a port number. Existing connections are not affected by the change, but any new connections must comply with the meter’s latest settings.
- Click OK. If multiple ports are set to the same number, ION Setup responds with a message indicating that the port is already in use by another protocol.
NOTE: The IEC 61850 port is enabled when a valid CID file is uploaded to the meter. The port is disabled by removing the CID file.
NOTE: The EtherGate port is enabled if the applicable serial port is set to EtherGate. If the serial port is set to a different protocol, the EtherGate port is closed.
