Summary
Firmware version 3.1.0 (V003.001.000) contains a number of new features and changes that are designed to expand the functionality of your meter.
We recommend that you upgrade your firmware to this version.
This topic lists the new functionality in firmware version 3.1.0, as well as how to obtain additional information and resources.
Prerequisites
- Before upgrading to version 3.1.0, firmware version 2.1.0 must have been previously installed.
- Ensure that the firmware version you are upgrading to is compatible with your meter and that the version number is greater than your existing firmware.
- Back up all your meter data. See the Firmware upgrades section for detailed information on how to upgrade the meter firmware.
- Download latest version of ION Setup (version 3.2.21279.01 or higher), and then check the connection requirements before upgrading.
New and updated features are available in the latest version of ION Setup. ION Setup is a free configuration tool for your meter that allows you to remotely configure your meter’s features over Ethernet or serial communications.
Go to https://www.se.com/en/download/document/ION_Setup_Latest_Release/ to get the latest version of ION Setup.
New functionality

4-wire RS-485 Option Module
The 4-wire RS-485 Option Module adds support for 4-wire RS-485 serial communications.

Fiber Ethernet Option Module
The Fiber Ethernet Option Module adds support for Fiber Optic Ethernet communications.

Framework update
A Power Up Alarm was added to the meter framework for WELMEC compliance. This new default alarm produces a medium priority alarm on the meter display to indicate that a meter power cycle occurred.

Downgrading from v3.1.0
Although not recommended, you can downgrade from v3.1.0 to version 3.0.x. Doing so will remove all 3.1.0 functionality.
NOTE: You cannot downgrade firmware version 3.x to firmware version 2.x.
