Connect to your device
Connect to your ION device to synchronize changes to or from your local device.
Prerequisites:
- Device credentials
Connecting to a device for the first time
To connect to a device for the first time:
- On the Home screen, select Connect to devices.
- Under Connection settings:
- Enter the device IP Address in New IP.
- Enter the Port number.
- Select the Protocol.
Note: When Automatic is selected, the application will attempt a connection using Secure ION. If the connection using Secure ION is unsuccessful, the application will attempt a connection using Classic ION.
Note: When connecting using Classic ION, the password is sent to the device using plain text (unencrypted).
- Select Connect.

Enter the device credentials, and then select Authenticate.
If a certificate notification appears, review the message, and then confirm the connection if you trust the certificate.
- Select Create Project With The Device.
- After the project is created, select Open project.
Connecting to an existing device
To connect to an existing device:
- On the Home screen, select the device's Project and Site.
- Open the device table of contents.
- Go to the toolbar, and then select Connect.
- Under Connection settings:
- Enter the device IP Address in New IP.
- Enter the Port number.
- Select the Protocol.
Note: When Automatic is selected, the application will attempt to make a connection using Secure ION. If the connection using Secure ION is unsuccessful, the application will attempt to make a connection using Classic ION.
Note: When connecting using Classic ION, the password is sent to the device using plain text (unencrypted).
Tip: To connect using the previous IP address, port, and protocol, select Use last IP.
- Select Connect.

Enter the device credentials, and then select Authenticate.
If a certificate notification appears, review the message, and then confirm the connection if you trust the certificate.
- Review the connection comparison and then select OK.
Note: When there are detected differences, review them, and then select Associate. This action will overwrite the local device content with the incoming differences from the connected device.
