Specify the Originator Address

The configuration Forms of IEC 60870-5 Direct Outstation Sets, IEC 60870-5 Shared Outstation Sets, and IEC 60870-5 Switched Outstation Sets include an IEC 60870 tab. Use the field on the tab to configure this property:

  • Originator—Use to set the value of the originator address in IEC 60870 data packets that are sent by Geo SCADA Expert. The originator address is used to identify the controlling station (that is, the Geo SCADA Expert system) from which a data packet originates.

    The valid range of this field is 0 to 255 inclusive. An originator address greater than 0 applies when multiple controlling stations communicate with the same outstation. In this case, the originator address of each controlling station should be unique. This helps to ensure that the response from the outstation is returned only to the controlling station that initiated the communication.

    The default setting is 0. An originator address of 0 implies that the response from the outstation is transmitted to all of the controlling stations that are a part of the system.
