Using SCADAPack Modbus Specific Actions

Geo SCADA Expert supports a wide variety of operator-driven or automated actions and controls. When performed by an operator, the actions are typically selected from a context-sensitive pop-up menu (see Object Menu). When accessed via context-sensitive menus in ViewX or Virtual ViewX, such actions and controls are known as 'pick actions'. Many of these pick actions are only displayed if the associated database item is In Service and has valid configuration. Additionally, your User Account has to be assigned the relevant security permissions for the database item—the relevant permission that applies to each pick action is mentioned alongside the description of that pick action in the Geo SCADA Expert documentation.

Most pick actions exist as 'methods' (specifically 'action methods') in the database. The pick actions that are available in ViewX and Virtual ViewX represent just some of the methods that are available in Geo SCADA Expert. (Methods that are designed only to be used programmatically are not made available as pick actions.) For more information about the methods that are available for each type of database item, please refer to the Database Schema (see Working with the Database Schema). The Database Schema provides details about the name and arguments that are associated with each method, so that you can call the methods from your own programs or scripts.

Users with the required permissions can add custom pick actions to a database item by using the User Methods tab on the relevant configuration Form (see Using the User Methods Tab to Define Custom Actions). The SCADAPack Modbus driver supports a combination of:

  • Actions that are common to many database items (see Object Menu, and see Object Menu Options)
  • Actions that are common to database items on many drivers (see Actions that are Common to Many Drivers)
  • Actions that are driver-specific. The topics in this section provide information about the actions that are specific to database items on this particular driver. For more information, see the topics that are listed in the gray footer section at the bottom of this topic. Select the relevant entry to display the topic that you require.
