Define Whether the User has to use Two-Factor Authentication

The properties described in this topic apply both to User Forms and User Pattern Forms. (User Patterns only apply to systems on which Geo SCADA Expert can create new User accounts automatically as part of an External Authentication process. For more information, see Create User Accounts from a User Pattern.)

This section only applies to Geo SCADA Expert systems on which two-factor authentication is configured and deployed. On such systems, you can enable the use of two-factor authentication against specific users of those systems.

You use the Two-Factor Authentication Required setting on the User Form to specify whether a second factor of authentication is required to authenticate the user to log on to Geo SCADA Expert.

To configure the Two-Factor Authentication Required setting:

  1. Either:

  2. Select the General tab.

  3. Either:
    • Select the Two-Factor Authentication Required check box to enable two-factor authentication for the user. The user will be prompted to enroll for two-factor authentication when they next attempt to log on to the system (see Log On to Geo SCADA Expert ViewX). Thereafter, they will be required to use two-factor authentication each time they log on to Geo SCADA Expert. (The exception to this is if two-factor authentication is ever disabled on the system. If this occurs, they will only be required to log on with one factor of authentication - the username and password of their User Account.)

    or

    • Clear this check box if this user is not required to use two-factor authentication. This is the default setting. The User Account can be used to log on to the system regardless of whether two-factor authentication is deployed across that system.

On a system on which two-factor authentication is deployed, consider whether that system includes clients, or client applications, that do not support two-factor authentication. If so, ensure that appropriate User Accounts exist to provide access from those clients and client applications. The Two-Factor Authentication Required check box has to be clear on those User Accounts.
