Profile Studio overview

Profile Studio is an engineering tool used to configure devices to comply with the IEC 61850-standard.

Using Profile Studio, you can:

  • Read Substation Configuration Description (SCD) files.
  • Customize the system's monitoring and control functions.

These capabilities assist with the setup and management of electrical substations.

Upon startup, configure Profile Studio by choosing one of the following processes:

Device by device process

Configure the EcoStruxure Power Operation (EPO) data acquisition layer of your system using devices listed in the legacy protocol catalog: PwrMODBUS, ION, DNP. The catalog displays a list of devices and their profiles, allowing you to select devices for specific applications. Create, edit, and manage custom devices, alarms, signals, and trends.

IEC 61850 SCD process

(Legacy) Configure the system's EPAS UI or EPO data acquisition layer using devices that comply with the IEC 61850 SCD standard. Profile Studio detects the types of datapoints inside the SCD file, such as alarms, setpoints, and positions. Manage data acquisition by assigning profiles to datapoints and editing their descriptions. Assign profiles automatically or manually. You can also use Profile Studio to create device links and virtual datapoints for EPAS projects.
