Disabling and enabling protocols and changing port numbers

Disabling unnecessary and unused communication protocol ports, such as SFTP, and network ports, reduces the attack surface. Changing port number default values reduces the predictability of use. See Default Ethernet ports for port defaults.

Leave ION protocol enabled for configuration changes and upgrades. If ION protocol is disabled, use the display, Modbus programming to access the meter.

Required for this procedure:

  • Meter connection using ION Setup.
  • Login credentials.
  • Security configuration access privileges.
