Configuring subsynchronous oscillation monitoring using ION Setup

The Subsynchronous Oscillation (SSO) Module monitors subsynchronous frequencies in the 0–50 Hz range. You must link a source input and optionally configure frequency groups.

Note: This procedure covers configuring the SSO Module only. It does not configure alarming, logging, or other actions. If you need to initiate an action when oscillations exceed a threshold, implement that logic in your ION template or in your supervisory system.

Use advanced mode in ION Setup to:

  • Select the source data to monitor.

Note: Data comes from linking numeric ION output registers from other modules to the Subsynchronous Oscillation Module's input register. You cannot link other types of ION registers. For more information, see ION Reference Help.

  • (Optional) Enter the frequency groups.

Prerequisites:

  • An understanding of ION architecture.

  • Full meter configuration access.

To configure subsynchronous oscillation monitoring:

  1. Open ION Setup.
  2. Open advanced mode for your meter.

If prompted, enter the device credentials.

Tip: To open advanced mode, Ctrl+Select your meter in the Network Viewer.

  3. Open Subsynchronous Oscillation Modules.
  4. If you do not already have a subsynchronous oscillation module:

    1. Right-click Subsynchronous Oscillation Modules.

    2. Select Insert Module.

      Subsynchronous Oscillation 1 is created.

  5. Open Subsynchronous Oscillation 1 or Subsynchronous Oscillation 2.
  6. Select Inputs, and then select Edit.

The ION Input Selection screen appears.

  7.  Link the source input:
    1. Go to Output Registers, and then:

      1. Select a module type that has a numeric register.

      2. Select the module that you want to open.

      3. Select the numeric register that you want to link to the selected Source.

    2. Select OK.

Tip: You must select a register for OK to become active.

  8. (Optional)  Enter the frequency groups:
    1. Select Setup Registers.
    2. Select Frequency Groups, and then select Edit.
    3. Enter the frequency groups that you want to monitor. For formatting details, see Subsynchronous oscillation frequency groups.
    4. Select OK.
  9. Select Send.
  10. Confirm your SSO configuration.
