Geo SCADA Expert Prerequisite Components

The Geo SCADA Expert Installer will offer various prerequisites prior to the main installation activity. Some of these prerequisites are mandatory; others are optional and, when selected, permit additional features to be used. The prerequisite components comprise a combination of the following:
(The actual options that are offered vary, depending on the operating system and whether any of the components are already installed. For example, the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 is not offered on operating systems on which that component is already built in.)

DO NOT UNINSTALL PREREQUISITE COMPONENTS

Uninstalling the prerequisite components may result in Geo SCADA Expert being unable to provide access to certain features, or being unable to run. It could also affect system security. For these reasons, do not uninstall the prerequisite components.

Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury, or equipment damage.

When you install Geo SCADA Expert, the components that are essential for Geo SCADA Expert to run on your operating system are installed automatically. A prompt is displayed for non-essential components, allowing you to choose the components that are relevant to your system.

We recommend that you only install components that you need for your system. For example, you only need to install:

• Local Web Proxy group of prerequisites on Geo SCADA Expert server installations.
  You have to install this group of prerequisites on a Server, or Server and Clients installation.
  (This installs and configures Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) as a reverse proxy for the Geo SCADA Expert server’s built-in web server.)
  There is no need to install this group of prerequisites on a client-only installation.
• The AVEVA Platform Common Services (PCS) component if you intend using any of the following:
  • PCS Data Interface
  • OPC UA server
  • User logons using the AVEVA Identity Manager.
    

  If required, you have to install the prerequisite on each Server, or Server and Clients installation. (There is no need to install it on a client-only installation.)

  AVEVA Platform Common Services (PCS) uses Microsoft Edge WebView2. As part of Microsoft Edge WebView2’s security settings, the Microsoft Defender SmartScreen is enabled by default. Therefore, if you install PCS, the Microsoft Defender SmartScreen is also installed on your machine. The Microsoft Defender SmartScreen collects and sends user information to Microsoft, as disclosed in the:

  You can disable the Microsoft Defender SmartScreen if PCS is installed on your machine. • The AVEVA Operations Control Logger if you intend using PCS Data Interface, the OPC UA server, AVEVA Identity Manager, the AVEVA Historic Data Export driver, or the Wonderware Alarm Provider driver. (You only need to install the prerequisite for the latter driver if you intend to use that driver to enable users to view and manage Geo SCADA Expert alarms from within Wonderware InTouch.)
• The AVEVA Adapter for Historic Data Export if you intend exporting historic data using the AVEVA Historic Data Export driver, and Geo SCADA Expert is to export the historic data to AVEVA PI Server or AVEVA Data Hub.
• The AVEVA Enterprise Licensing component if your system uses the AVEVA Flex subscription offer and Flex credits for licensing (rather than license files or dongles).

  If required, you have to install the prerequisite on each Server, or Server and Clients installation. (There is no need to install it on a client-only installation.)

• Safenet Sentinel System Driver if your computers are using dongles for licensing (rather than license files, or an AVEVA Enterprise License Server).
• The relevant SAP Crystal Reports Runtime Engine component(s) if your system is using SAP Crystal Reports 2016, SAP Crystal Reports 2020, or SAP Crystal Reports 2025 (for more information, see the note below).

  The SAP Crystal Reports runtime components are NOT installed by default. If you intend to install them you must purchase a Crystal Reports runtime license for each server on which these components are to be operational (clients do not need a license to use the runtime components). For servers on which the runtime components are operational, the Crystal Reports runtime license is included with the Geo SCADA Expert Crystal Reports driver license. Please contact your Schneider sales representative for more information.

  Install the 64-bit version of the SAP Crystal Reports Runtime Engine on Geo SCADA Expert server installations (to enable generating and exporting of reports). Install the 32-bit version of the SAP Crystal Reports Runtime Engine on ViewX clients and Virtual ViewX servers (to display reports). Please select both if you are to run Server and Clients on the same computer. As the runtime components are prerequisites, you have to select them before you continue further with the Geo SCADA Expert installation (this is handled automatically in the Virtual ViewX installer). For more information about the installation order, see the Installation section of the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to the Crystal Reports Driver.

  If you intend using Crystal Reports on your system, you also need to install the Crystal Reports prerequisites and driver on any Permanent Standby servers, in order for the Geo SCADA Expert database to synchronize. However, as the Permanent Standby Geo SCADA Expert servers do not require the Crystal Reports driver to be operational, they do not require a Crystal Reports runtime license. (On the Modules tab on the Server Status Tool of such servers, the Crystal Reports driver will show a red 'No License' state due to the lack of runtime license. This is expected on Permanent Standby servers. On all other servers on systems that use Crystal Reports, the Crystal Reports driver and runtime components must be licensed.)

Installing components that are not needed on your system uses up disk space unnecessarily. It also increases the attack surface. For improved system security, you should avoid installing or running components that you do not require on your system.
