Device Configuration IEC 60870-5-104 Tab

The Form of a SCADAPack x70 Device Configuration item includes an IEC 60870-5-104 tab that enables you to define the IEC 60870-5-104 settings of the SCADAPack x70 Device Configuration item. The properties on the tab are only available for use when the SCADAPack x70 device is configured as an IEC 60870-5-104 Controlled Station.

You use the fields within the following sections on the IEC 60870-5-104 tab to configure the controlling station settings:

• Controlling Station—Use the fields within the Controlling Station section to define how the SCADAPack x70 device's IEC 60870-5-104 Controlled Station reports data to its controlling station(s).
• General Setup—Use the IOA Format drop-down list to define the IOA number format that represents the SCADAPack x70 Device Configuration item.
• IEC 60870-5-104 Events—Use the fields within the IEC 60870-5-104 Events section to define the event buffer settings.
  • Event Buffer Size—If IEC 60870-5-104 is enabled on the SCADAPack x70 device, the default IEC 60870-5-104 Event Buffer size is 4000.

    The valid range for this field is 0-100000 (inclusive). The combined maximum number of events between DNP3 and IEC 60870-5-104 is 100000.

     

    Example 1: Valid Configuration:

    • DNP3 Maximum Event Storage is 90000
    • IEC 60870-5-104 Event Buffer Size is 5000.

      This configuration is valid as it results in a combined maximum number of 95000 events, which is lower than the valid maximum of 100000.

    Example 2: Invalid Configuration:

    • DNP3 Maximum Event Storage is 90000
    • IEC 60870-5-104 Event Buffer Size is 15000.

      This results in a combined maximum number of 105000 events. This configuration is invalid as it is greater than the valid maximum of 100000.

    You configure the DNP3 Maximum Events Storage value in the Event Configuration section of the DNP3 Outstation tab (see Event Configuration).

  • Discard New Events if Buffer Full—Select this check box if the SCADAPack x70 device is to stop adding IEC 60870-5-104 events to the local buffer and to discard any new IEC 60870-5-104 events if the buffer is full. The events that are already in the buffer are saved.

    Clear the check box if the SCADAPack x70 device is to discard the oldest events that are already in the buffer in order to make space to add new IEC 60870-5-104 events, when the event buffer is filled. This is the default setting.
