Upgrade the Prerequisite Components

Aside from these prerequisites: Be aware that you might need to install other software on the Geo SCADA Expert server or clients in order to use certain drivers in Geo SCADA Expert. This requirement only applies to a few drivers. The driver guides for such drivers should include installation information about such requirements. Check this information before starting to install Geo SCADA Expert as in some cases, the other software might need installing first.

At the start of the installation process on an upgrade, the Setup window is displayed. This lists any mandatory or optional prerequisite components that are required for the upgrade, but that are either not already installed on the computer or are installed but need updating. Optional prerequisites include a check box. With optional prerequisite components that are already installed on the computer, the check boxes display a check mark (which indicates that those components will be upgraded). The check boxes of any optional prerequisite components that are not currently installed will be in their default state (usually clear).

Select the check boxes of any additional optional prerequisite components that you want to install during the upgrade. (For information about the prerequisite components that are required for particular features in Geo SCADA Expert, see Geo SCADA Expert Prerequisite Components.) We recommend that you only install components that you need for your system. Installing components that are not needed takes up disk space unnecessarily. It also increases the attack surface. For improved system security, you should avoid installing or running components that you do not require on your system.

When you select the OK button to continue with the installation process:

  • Any additional mandatory prerequisite components are installed automatically.

  • Any additional optional prerequisite components that you have selected will be installed.

  • Any mandatory prerequisite components that are already installed will be upgraded if they have become out of date.

  • Any prerequisite components that are already installed and remain selected in the Setup window will be upgraded if they have become out of date.

  • If you cleared the check boxes of any out-of-date optional prerequisite components that were already installed on the computer, those prerequisite components will be uninstalled.

    You should consider uninstalling any prerequisite components that are no longer required, to reduce the attack surface and save disk space.

    Take care when uninstalling unnecessary prerequisite components.

    Always shut down Geo SCADA Expert first and ensure that no other applications require those components.

    Uninstalling prerequisite components that are still required might result in Geo SCADA Expert being unable to provide access to certain features, or being unable to run. It might also affect system security.

    Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury, or equipment damage.
