Birth Certificate

Associated with: Sparkplug™ Edge Nodes and Sparkplug Devices

Once it has been in communications with the broker with which a Sparkplug Edge Node or Sparkplug Device is associated, Geo SCADA Expert receives a Sparkplug birth certificate for that Sparkplug Edge Node or Sparkplug Device. A copy of the birth certificate is then cached for use by the Geo SCADA Expert server.

The Birth Certificate status attribute indicates the time and date on which Geo SCADA Expert last received a Sparkplug birth certificate for the selected Sparkplug Edge Node or Sparkplug Device.

If Geo SCADA Expert has never received a Sparkplug birth certificate for the selected Sparkplug Edge Node or Sparkplug Device, the status attribute displays the value:

Birth message not received

This latter value typically only applies when the database item has been newly created and not yet placed In Service.

On a new system, or following expansion of an existing system, you can use the Create Devices from Device Birth Messages pick action to trigger Geo SCADA Expert to automatically create Sparkplug Devices in the database. The pick action is only available for use on a Sparkplug Edge Node once Geo SCADA Expert has received the Sparkplug birth certificates for that Sparkplug Edge Node and the individual Sparkplug Devices.

You can then use the Create Points from Birth Metrics pick action to trigger Geo SCADA Expert to automatically create the relevant Sparkplug Points in the database. The pick action is only available for use on a Sparkplug Edge Node or Sparkplug Device once Geo SCADA Expert has received the Sparkplug birth certificate for that Sparkplug Edge Node or Sparkplug Device.
