Create Devices from Device Birth Messages

You can use this pick action as an alternative to manually creating and configuring each Sparkplug Device in the database. Use the pick action to create the relevant Sparkplug Devices and automatically associate those Devices with the selected Sparkplug Edge Node. You can then use the Create Points from Birth Metrics pick action on each Sparkplug Device to automatically create the database points that are associated with the selected Device.

The Create Devices from Device Birth Messages pick action is only available on a Sparkplug Edge Node. This action becomes available once Geo SCADA Expert has been in communication with the broker and has received the Sparkplug birth certificates for both of the following:

• The Sparkplug Edge Node. This status is indicated by the Sparkplug Edge Node's Birth Certificate status attribute.

• The individual Sparkplug Devices that are associated with the selected Sparkplug Edge Node. (The Create Devices from Device Birth Messages pick action is only available if Geo SCADA Expert has received birth certificates that indicate that one or more Sparkplug Devices are associated with the selected Sparkplug Edge Node.)

If you are using the Geo SCADA Expert Sparkplug Publisher driver to create points on and publish data to the Sparkplug driver, you need to associate a Group with the Device Mapping field of a Sparkplug Publisher database item. This Group must contain all of the database points that are to be created on the Sparkplug Device. Ensure that the Sparkplug driver receives birth certificates for the Sparkplug Edge Node and its associated Sparkplug Devices after this configuration has been completed in the Sparkplug Publisher driver.

When you use the Create Devices from Device Birth Messages action on the Sparkplug Edge Node, an equivalent Group with a Sparkplug Device is automatically created in the Sparkplug driver. You can then use the Create Points from Birth Metrics action on the Sparkplug Device to automatically create the database points in the same Group.
