Configure a Sparkplug™ Device

A Sparkplug Device represents a physical or logical device or sensor that is connected to an Edge Node on a Sparkplug Broker. The Sparkplug Device provides data using a compliant MQTT version 3.1.1 connection.

Instead of manually creating each Sparkplug Device individually, you can use the Create Devices from Device Birth Messages pick action to automatically create the required Sparkplug Devices on a Sparkplug Edge Node. This means of Device creation automatically associates the Sparkplug Devices with the Sparkplug Edge Node from which the pick action was triggered. After the Sparkplug Devices are created, you can then use the Create Points from Birth Metrics pick action on each Sparkplug Device to automatically create the database points that are associated with the selected Sparkplug Device.

You configure the properties of each Sparkplug Device using the fields on the Sparkplug Device configuration Form. The Form has several tabs, some of which contain properties that are common to many database items, and others that contain properties that are specific to Sparkplug Devices.
