System Admin

The System Admin permission defines whether the user or User Group can access the archiving feature for the selected item and the shutdown, configure, and manage server features for the Root Group. For example, by accessing the security settings for the system (Root) and disabling the System Admin permission for a User Account, you stop that user from having access to the Server Configuration Tool and Server Status displays.

You can also use the System Admin permission to restrict access to high-level sensitive data (see Specify Whether Access to Sensitive Data is Restricted by Privilege in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Core Configuration).

You can only log on to the Server Configuration Tool or Server Status Tool using a User Account that is assigned the System Admin permission for the System or Root Group. Likewise, you can only perform administrative actions via the Server Icon if your User Account is assigned the System Admin permission for the System or Root Group. Such activities include viewing the License Details, and shutting down the server. With Geo SCADA Expert 2023 onwards, access can be further restricted by requiring those User Accounts to be successfully enrolled for two-factor authentication (see Use Two-Factor Authentication with Geo SCADA Expert).

In ViewX, a User Account only has access to an item or feature if the user account has the relevant security permissions and the corresponding features enabled in the User Account configuration (see Creating a User Account).

Availability: Is available to any User or User Group with the Security permission for the selected item. The System Admin permission cannot be restricted (you can only stop Users and User Groups from having access to the system admin settings by denying them the System Admin permission for database items on a per item basis).
