Calculating the pulse weight (Kt)

Prerequisites:

  • The required pulse rate
  • The maximum expected power delivered in kW

To calculate Kt (pulse weight in kWh/pulse), divide the highest kW value you can expect by the required pulse rate.

Ensure that the required pulse rate does not exceed the maximum pulse rate for the digital output.

Example pulse weight calculation

For a maximum load of 1600 kW and a pulse rate of two pulses per second:

  1. Convert the 1600 kW load into kWh/s:

    1600 kW × 1 hr = 1600 kWh

    1600 kWh ÷ 3600 s = 0.444 kWh/s

  2. Calculate the pulse weight:

    Kt = 0.444 kWh/s ÷ 2 pulse/s = 0.222 kWh/pulse

  3. If you have the Output Mode set to KYZ, adjust for the KY giving one pulse per two transitions if necessary:

    Kt = 0.222 kWh/s ÷ 2 pulse/s = 0.111 kWh/pulse
