Time synchronization settings

Note: The available parameters and values may differ for your device.

Time synchronization settings

Parameter Values Description
Time Synchronization Type UTC, LOCAL

Sets the time format of the time synchronization message:

  • UTC (Coordinated Universal time): equivalent to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
  • LOCAL: the UTC time with DST and time zone offsets applied.

For NTP, SNTP, and PTP time synchronization, set the Time Synchronization Type to UTC.

Time Synchronization Source COM1, COM4, Ethernet - ION, Ethernet - ION, Ethernet - DNP, Ethernet - PTP, IRIG-B

Sets which device port accepts time synchronization messages. Time synchronization messages on other ports are ignored.

Set the Time Synchronization Source to:

  • COM1 (or COM4) for GPS time synchronization.
  • ETHERNET for SNTP/NTP time synchronization.
  • ETHERNET - ION for ION time synchronization.
  • ETHERNET - DNP for DNP time synchronization.
  • ETHERNET - PTP for PTP time synchronization.
  • IRIG-B for IRIG-B time synchronization.
Enable NTP/SNTP Time Synchronization No, NTP, SNTP

Sets the time synchronization protocol:

  • NTP: specifies NTP time synchronization.
  • SNTP: specifies SNTP time synchronization.
  • No: does not use NTP or SNTP time synchronization.
SNTP/NTP Server Contact your local network administrator for parameter values. Specifies the IP address (or fully qualified domain name if Domain Name System is active) of the SNTP or NTP server.
Time Synchronization Interval Numeric value or elapsed interval value Specifies how often the device synchronizes over SNTP.
Event Logging Threshold 0.000001–1.000000 Specifies the minimum time difference (in seconds) for a time synchronization to be logged as an event.

This parameter can be configured to help prevent the device’s event log from being flooded with time synchronization events.

Clock Source Internal, COMM, Line Freq

Sets the source for the clock:

  • Internal: the device’s internal clock.
  • COMM: the device’s communication port (used by the IRIG-B, GPS, or ETHERNET - PTP Time Synchronization Source).
  • Line Freq: uses the measured power system line frequency as the clock source.
