Use a Property Translation Table to Help to Configure the Points on a Client
This procedure applies if you want to automatically create and configure the points in the client to match the point configuration in this Geo SCADA Expert database.
You can use a Property Translation Table on the Sparkplug Publisher driver to provide instructions to the Sparkplug Publisher in Geo SCADA Expert. These instruct the Sparkplug Publisher to include in its birth messages details about specific point configuration properties that are to differ from the default values on the client. Before following the procedure in this topic, ensure that you are aware of the Considerations when using a Property Translation Table.
You cannot include a Property Translation Table in a Group Template. However, if you intend using Group Templates and Group Instances, you can initially use a 'normal' Group that you later convert into a Group Template (see Preparation).
To use a Property Translation Table to help to populate the configuration properties of automatically created points in the client:
-
Create the content for each Property Translation Table outside of Geo SCADA Expert. The content has to take the form of a TSV file (see Create the Content for a Property Translation Table).
-
Create a Sparkplug Publisher Property Translation Table item in the database for each Property Translation Table file that you want to store and use in Geo SCADA Expert (see Configure a Sparkplug Publisher Property Translation Table).
-
Use the Import Property Translation Table pick action on a Property Translation Table item to import the relevant TSV file into the database. (You can store only one file per Sparkplug Property Translation Table item in the database.)
-
Use the Last Import Time attribute to check whether the TSV file has been imported successfully into the database.
A file might be imported successfully, but contain errors. These errors could occur if invalid or unsupported properties are included in the file. Errors associated with the import process are logged in the Events List.
-
Address any errors in the file, or issues if the import did not succeed, and then reattempt the import (see Create the Content for a Property Translation Table).
-
Ensure that the Property Translation Table is associated with the Sparkplug Publisher that is to publish data for this collection of points. For more information, see Configure the Properties on the Sparkplug Publisher Tab.
Whenever the Sparkplug Publisher sends any birth messages to the client, it will include the values of the configuration properties that are stored in the Property Translation Table.
When you publish data to a Sparkplug client, the client will receive birth messages that include the configuration properties from the Property Translation Table of the Sparkplug Publisher. The metrics from the birth messages are stored in the Sparkplug Edge Node or Sparkplug Device in the client. If the client to which you are publishing data is a Geo SCADA Expert Sparkplug client, you can configure an equivalent Property Translation Table on that client. You can then can use the Create Points from Birth Metrics pick action on the Sparkplug Edge Node or Sparkplug Device to automatically create points or modify existing point configuration in the client.
